How aware do you think are people today about environmental issues inChina? ( 5 - 8 )
That’s an interesting question. Allow me to explain my personal views byshortly mentioning the following points: Firstly, the air pollution in ourcities is making people more aware of the issues because it is affecting themdirectly. For example, often in the winter one has difficulty breathing outsidein the mornings. Secondly, water pollution has resulted in us not being able todrink our water. This means that water for domestic purposes has to be bought athigh cost. One aspect that people have to be made more aware of is recycling.Housewives should be taught to sort their garbage into groups like glass, plastic, paper and biodegradable waste. These groups of waste can then berecycled into new products which in turn will save on our use of naturalresources.

My recent visit to the city of Shanghai was not pleasant. Allow me toexplain some reasons. Firstly, the traffic is no pleasure. For example, onecannot move around freely because of all the traffic jams. Secondly, I foundthat the language of the people was vey different to mine. This meant thatalthough we were of the same nation, I could not always communicate smoothlywith people well.

The best place that I have been to has definitely been The Great Wall. Ithas a very long history, and its size is amazing. It is the only human structurethat can be seen from the moon.
Could you tell me something about the traditional architecture in China? (5 - 8 )
I don’t know much about architecture, but I will try my best. I know thatChinese architecture is unique in the world. This is due mainly to the types ofbuilding materials that have been available to people for many centuries. Inmodern times new materials have become available, and has resulted in ourarchitecture becoming more westernized.
What are the major social problems in China? ( 5 - 6 )
What is the biggest problem that China faces? ( 5 - 6 )
That’s a broad question. Allow me to explain my views by shortly mentioningthe following points: Firstly, unemployment is a large problem. For example, more and more people are loosing their jobs. This is resulting in many socialproblems. Secondly, raising the standard of living of communities, especially inthe provinces in the west of the country. This implies that we should attempt toget more people living in those areas. This would have the additional advantagethat the pressure on the resources and infrastructure in the east of the countrywill be eased.
What are the major social problems in China? ( 7 - 8 )
What is the biggest problem that China faces? ( 7 - 8 )
That’s a broad question. Allow me to explain my views by shortly mentioningthe following points: Firstly, unemployment is a large problem in many parts ofthe world. For example, more and more people are loosing their jobs, resultingin many social problems, like poverty, on the ground level. Secondly, lack ofeducation leads to ignorance amongst the populations of the world. This in turnrestricts in people not appreciating what the challenges are that are facingthem.
How can these social problems be solved? ( 5 - 8 )
That’s an interesting question. Allow me to explain my views by shortlymentioning the following points: First of all, pollution and overpopulationcannot be solved easily. It will take a lot of effort by many governments andother organizations. Individuals all over the world will have to make acontribution as well. Pollution is a result of development in general andindustrialization in particular. Fighting pollution usually means that theprofits made by industries are reduced, which leads to resistance from theindustrialists. I believe that the answer will be to find a balance betweendevelopment and conservation.
What do you think are the most significant events in the recent history ofChina? ( 5 - 8 )
That’s an interesting question. Allow me to explain my personal views byshortly mentioning the following points: Firstly, I believe The Second World Warhas been the most significant single event in recent times. For example, itresulted in dramatic changes in the world order. From it two superpowers,America and Russia (one of China’s neighbors) emerged. Countries like Japan andGermany were affected in the most spectacular ways, but it also had a majorinfluence on many other countries such as China.
What role does religion play in everyday life in China? ( 5 - 6 )
That’s a broad question. Allow me to explain myself by shortly mentioningthe following points: Firstly, amongst the younger generation I would say thatis has virtually no influence. This can be seen for example in the way that theyoungsters are becoming more and more unfamiliar with the traditional customs aspracticed by the generations before them. They are becoming more humanistic intheir worldviews. To be more exact, they believe that the human being itself isthe ultimate force to be reckoned with in life.
Do you think more and more people want to leave China? Why?
( 5 - 6 )
That’s a tough question. Allow me to explain myself/my personal views byshortly mentioning the following points: Yes. I believe more and more peoplewant to leave China. If I had to highlight the main reason why they want toleave, I would say that they are under the impression that they will have aneasier and more affluent life abroad. They are lured by the images that they seeon television of all the comforts and luxuries people abroad enjoy. I believethat this is a fallacy created by the western media. The media does not show thedownside of life in many of these countries. Except for maybe a country likeSwitzerland, all countries have some people living in poverty and ignorance. Ibelieve that it is not necessary to go to another country to be successful andhappy.
