I’d like to talk about “bing tang hu lu”, which is a kind of traditional Chinese snack and is basically crispy sugar-coated fruits on a stick.
If I remember right, it was invented in Song dynasty, about hundreds of years ago. Although so many years have passed, its popularity never fades.
It’s my favorite snack during winter. The taste and texture is just out of this world. I still remember after the first bite, I felt as if I’ve found the love of my life. And it’s safe to say, it suits everyone’s taste. People from different age groups all love it. The best part is, it’s pretty organic, I mean, it doesn’t have any additives or preservatives. The sourness can always give you a good appetite, and the fresh fruits in it, according to dietitians, can make your skin smoother.
Oh, speaking of which, at first, haws are the only fruit used when people were making this kind of snack, they wrapped haws in steamed sugar, and in freezing cold winter, when they were taken outside, the sugar would automatically freeze and become crisp. So when you taste it, it’s sweet on the outside and a little bit sour and juicy on the inside. Today, people are more creative and bold, anything you can think of could be made into bing tang hu lu, like grapes, oranges, strawberries, kiwifruits, you name it.
So… that’s the traditional product I’d like to share with you.
