雅思口语里最近的题目之一是:a useful skill you learned in a math class from your high school.
I have developed an awesome skill in my math class in high school, which is sleeping while sitting in my chair without being caught.
Here’s how it happened.
My math teacher is a boring old man, and he has this monotonous voice that makes everybody sleepy. He’s got no teaching skills at all. What he did every class was reading the textbook and copying what’s on the textbook onto the blackboard. Actually, I was pretty into math when I was in junior high school, but he has successfully made math class a nightmare for me.
And the worst part was, at that time, we had plenty of homework every night, we had to stay up late basically all the time. So we were all tired and drowsy during the daytime. And obviously, this teacher didn’t make things any better.
We knew it was not polite to sleep during class, it would be so disrespectful. However, we couldn’t control ourselves. I mean, when he was giving a lecture, we just nodded off constantly. We couldn’t sleep like this (肢体语言跟上,做出‘趴在桌子上’的动作), so we just sat back in our chair, and put the textbook on our lap, pretending to read. There’s no way he could found out.
This skill is useful for the simple reason that it has helped me sit through many boring speeches and lectures in college.
