Task 1

1. Which of the following Art classes would you be more interested intaking? Wood Sculpture, Painting or Photography?

I would say I like to take the photography class, I have a very genuineinterest in photographing, and I am very passionate about expressing myselfthrough imageries. I take pictures to record my own life, and it is a very goodway to reflect the past, also I like to help others to remember their preciousmoments by photos, like their weddings, graduation ceremonies and some otherspecial events. I just feel that when I am not using my camera, there is a voidin my life. But I still need to get better in photographing, so I would like totake this class.

2. Describe a person that you look up to as a role model. Explain how thisperson influenced your life. Include details and examples to support yourresponse.

Well, I would say my role model is my friend Iddie, I met him when I was onan exchange program to study in America. I would not say he is a smart orintelligent person, but the fortitude and willpower he has to achieve somethinghe really aspires are so inspiring. He grew up in Ghana, a underdevelopedcountry in Africa. Though he had lots of setbacks in his life, he nevercomplained about anything, and he just hunkered down and made an effort to makehis life better. His passion and attitude for life are so contagious that Ialways look up to him.

3. What kind of suggestions do you have to someone who is going to visityour city.

Since I am from a coastal city in China. I would say the best time to visitis during the summer, especially June, when it is not too hot. You can bath inthe sun while appreciating the beautiful scenery alone the seashore, like theblossom and palm trees and stuff. One should definitely try out the sea foodlike salmon, tuna and even some lobsters. Apart from that, the last thing youshould miss out when visiting this nice and beautiful city is sea and wateractivities like snorkeling, wakeboarding and even jet skiing. You might get alittle sun burnt but still worth it.

4. Nowadays many people move to cities for work and study. what advantagesdoes moving to cities bring to people?

There are numerous benefits one can get by working and studying in a bigcity. For example, people are likely to get better education, medical treatment,and even social welfare. Apart from that, a big city is multi cultural and fullof dynamics, there are people from all over the country and even from around theglobe. Getting a chance to experience different languages, customs and cultureswill benefit the kids a lot when they grow up and it will make them a better andwell-rounded person. Furthermore, fresh graduate can land their dream jobs mucheasily than in a small city, where the job opportunities are relativelyscarce.

5. If your university plans to improve the life of students by one of thefollowing methods, which do you prefer?

(1) build a new cafeteria

(2) build a new indoor swimming pool

(3) make improvements in dormitories

Personally, I would say they university should renovate dorms for thefollowing reasons. To begin with, dorms are the place where students spend mostof their time besides library and classrooms.To provide students a betterenvironment to live in can help them to relax properly, quiet and comfy dormscan keep students refreshed after a good sleep at night, and thus they canconcentrate better during the lectures. On top of that, lots of students will beattracted to our university if we renovate our dorms, thus renovating the dormcan help our university to boast its popularity.出国考雅思还是托福

6. Computer technology has influenced student’s study in various ways. Giveexamples to illustrate the advantage that a computer helps in your study.

Well, I cannot agree more that computer has made our study much easier andmore efficiently. Actually, when I do research, I can just type in the key wordsof the topic that I am researching, and then the next moment I know, there aremillions of sources showing up on the screen, and I can use whichever I need to.It is so instant and convenient, and most of the sources are free. Additionally,I can use lots of software on the computer to help to study more efficiently,like, recently, I am preparing the TOEFL exam, I can just use a dictionary onthe computer to check the unfamiliar words, it's far more effective than using atraditional dictionary.

Task 2

1. Some people like to participate in activities alone, others like to dothat with a team or group. Which way do you prefer and why?

Personally, I would like to participate in activities in a group, I am anextrovert and outgoing person, and I think it is more fun when there are peoplearound me. Plus, I can also learned the importance of cooperation andresponsibility when I am with a team, for example in a sport competition, me andmy teammate struggle together for a common goal, offer each other motivationalong the way, and I feel that I care something bigger than myself during thegame, and I think this is very meaningful.

2. Do you agree with the following statement: it is important to study thehistory from ancestors.

I couldn't agree more with that, learning history from ancestors is a greatway to learn the mindset, ideas, and attitudes of the past, and this gives us achance to learn from who we came from and find one's identity. Additionally, wecan draw upon the ancient philosophy to make today's world a better place, likeancient Chinese philosophy can gives us some insight on how to live harmoniouslywith the mother nature and stop polluting the environment, to help the preservethe endangered species, and stuff like that.

3. Do you agree with the following statement: school should ban on all junkfood, such as hamburger, soda, and sugar from school property.

Personally, it is really important for the school to encourage healthyeating habits, and junk food like French fries and hamburgers alike should bebanned in schools. Too much junk food with high carbs leads to childhoodobesity. Additionally, Greasy junk food lacks certain vitamins for the healthydevelopment of the children, and students without sufficient healthy food mightsuffer from lack of concentration on their study and they get easily distracted,thus school should encourage healthy eating habit.

4. Some people like to do exam review in the morning, while others wouldlike to do that in the evening. Which one do you prefer and why?

I would say I like to review exams in the evening. One of the reasons isthat, I find it more quiet in the evening and I can concentrate on my reviewing,however if I did some review during the day, I would easily get distracted,actually, it is kind of noisy during the day, finding a peaceful spot to studyis pretty difficult. Also, I feel like I am more energetic during night time,and I am kind of sluggish during the day, so doing some review during the nightcan be really productive for me.

5. Some students prefer to study for only one long time during a week.Others students prefer to study for several short times during a week. Which waydo you prefer and why?

I prefer to study for several short times instead of studying for a longtime during a week and have the following reason for support. You know, as acollege student I am very busy with all kinds of study, we have different kindsof assignments, like presentations, group projects, papers to write and exams.Studying for several short time makes it possible for us to take a rest once ina while, however, studying for a long time during a week without any break willkill me and of course, we will be so worn out and not as productive as studyingfor several short time.

6. Some students prefer to have an early class schedule with classes in themorning, others prefer to have a late class schedule so they can go to classesin the afternoon. Which one do you prefer? Explain why.

Personally, I prefer to have class scheduled early in the morning, to beginwith, I am the kind of person like to sleep in if I have nothing important to doin the morning. However, if I know there is an early morning class to take, Iwill get up early and get prepared, and plus, I can use the rest of the day todo other stuff, and be productive. On top of that, I am at my best during thehours before noon, I feel energized after a full night's sleep and taking abracing morning shower, thus I can concentrate better.
