Task 1
1. Talk about what you like to do during spare time. Give specific reasonsand details in your explanation.
I would say I like to do lots of sports in school during my spare time. Inour school, we have a very up to standard gym. we have a very nice swimmingpool, basketball court, badminton court and other facilities. I like playbasketball most. usually I play basketball with my best friends. also I like toread books in our school library. reading books make a man intelligent and itoffers you experience that you will probably not have in your daily life. Apartfrom that, I like to attend lectures offered by lots of prestigious professors.I am very curious and eager to learn. so these lectures definitely are myfavorites.
2. Your friend has a bad eating habit. What suggestions would you like togive the friend?
I would suggest my friend to eat healthy stuff like vegetables, like salad,tomatoes, and broccoli. Also, in order to have enough nutrient needed for theday, I would suggest my friend to have some sea food, like salmon, tuna, shrimpand stuff like that. They are high in protein, low in carbs. These food areactually easy to cook, you can just steam them, and eat the seafood with somelimes or lemon. Another suggestion for my friends is that always avoiding fastfood and junk food, like French fries, fried chickens, and hash brown, andstuff. With these two suggestion in mind, my friend can develop a very goodeating habit.
3. What can we do to reduce air pollution? Give examples and details inyour answer.
There are lots of ways for the city to reduce air pollution. Firstly, theycan cut down the usage of cars and other vehicles, thus the car exhaust can bereduced. The decision makers should invest more money to improve publictransportation, like adding more bus routes, making public transportation moreaccessible; developing express local trains and repave bumpy roads. Secondly,the government should put forward some policies to punish factories whodischarge lots of waste into the air, for example, they can impose a heavy taxon these factories. Plus, they can subsidize the environment conscious companiesthat use renewable energies like natural gas, wind power and nuclear power.
4. Describe a place you would like to study in.
My most favorite place to study is my campus coffee shop. when I want toread some English materials, I would stay inside of the coffee shop. when I feellike to practice my speaking English, I can always have the choice to go outsidesit around the patios to read out loud. despite all these advantages, you canalways enjoy a cup of good-tasting coffee. also, if you feel like to eat somesnacks, you can get very delicious cookies. that will give you enough energy tostudy.
5. Which technology do you think has made the greatest impact on people'slives in your country. Airplane, computer, or television.
I would say that computer has the greatest impact on people's lives. Todaypeople use computer for everything, like watching news, watching movies,listening to music, and even doing shopping on-line, computer provides lots ofentertainment, it makes our life more fulfilling. Apart from that, computer is amust in a working environment, people use computer to do all kinds of work in acompany, like sending emails, filing paper works, and even using excel to createtables and charts, the use of computer in workplace great improved ourproductivity.
6. If you have a chance to learn something new, which of the followingwould you like to learn? Flying an airplane, playing a sport or playing anmusical instrument.
I would definitely choose to play a new sport. I find it very relaxing whenI play sports, it helps me to release my tension and depression that I got fromboth my life and study. Apart from that, playing sports is a very good way tokeep healthy and try to be in good shape. It helps you to build up some musclesand be athletic, it is also good for your cardio vascular system. Lastly, I geta chance to meet new friends and broaden my social network when playing a sport,getting to know different people is a very thrilling experience for me.
7. What is the most important quality the teacher should have?
I would say the most important quality of a good teacher is knowledge. Asknown to all, the teacher's job is to impart knowledge and enlighten thestudents' creativity. A teacher is supposed to be an expert in his or her ownfield, they should also have some knowledge in other fields, cuz lots of subjectare related with other fields for example, geopolitical science deals withgeography and politics, behavioral economics is about psychology and economics.Most important of all, a knowledgeable teacher will be more popular than ateacher with very limited knowledge.
8. Describe a time you learned a new subject.
When I was in junior high, I had to learn English for the first time, andit was really hard for me to pick up at first. The words, grammar and sentencepatterns are just so different from Chinese. But with the help of my Englishteacher, I gradually learnt some basic words and useful phrases, and I startedpracticing English with foreigner whenever I got a chance, the more I acquire,the more I am willing to learn and I put more effort and I am determined to bereally good in English. Now, after so many years, I am still a big fan of theEnglish language, and I cannot live a single day without it.
9. What do you think the government should do to decrease the usage of carsor other vehicles and solve the traffic problems?
There are lots of ways for the city to decrease the usage of cars and othervehicles, and deal with the traffic jams. Firstly, the decision makers shouldinvest more money to improve public transportation, like adding more bus routes;develop express local trains and renovating bumpy roads. Secondly, they in orderto limit the number of private cars on roads, more tax should be imposed ongasoline price, and they probably should reduce the price of publictransportation, and make it more accessible to citizens, so when they commute,they will only consider using public transportation.
10. Which of the following do you think is the most important formaintaining good health? Doing exercises, eating healthy food, or going to bedearly?
I would say doing exercises is most important for maintaining good health.Especially aerobics like swimming, jogging, and even do some running on atreadmill, it helps you cardiovascular system. When you sweat a lot, it helpsyour system to get rid of the poisonous stuff within your body. Secondly, bydoing exercise, you can burn lots of fat in your body, and you do not have tosay to delicious food and snacks, like ice cream, hamburgers and stuff likethat.
11. Describe a type of movie you don't like.
Well, this is a very interesting question and I have never thought aboutit. Generally, I like all kinds of movie that is interesting and relaxing. SinceI am a person who likes funny stuff, so I guess I don't like horror movies. Theonly reason I watch movie is to get some relaxation and enjoy my free time,however whenever I watch horror movies, I feel I am so disturbed and veryuncomfortable, and my immune system might suffer from the creepy scenes andmusic, and I might get a serious cold after a horror movie, that is why I am nota big fan of this kind of movie.托福学习方法
12. Talk about an activity you enjoyed doing with your family when you werea child, explain your answer in details.
My most memorable experience when I was a kid is to take the vacation onthe beach with the whole family. Since, my home town is not far from a coastalcity in China. We went there, enjoyed bathing in the sun while appreciating thebeautiful scenery alone the seashore, like the blossom and palm trees and stuff.We tried out the sea food like salmon, tuna and even some lobsters. Apart fromthat, the most exciting stuff I did when visiting this nice and beautiful citywas sea and water activities like snorkeling, wakeboarding and even jet skiingwith my dad. But I remembered that I got a little sun though.
13. Talk about a special event you participated, and explain it indetails.
Well, recently, I participated in a basketball game together with my fellowteammates representing our university, and finally we won the game. I learnedthe importance of cooperation and responsibility when I participated this event,me and my teammate struggled together for a common goal to win the game, offeredeach other motivation along the way, and I feel that I care something biggerthan myself during the game, and I think this is very meaningful.
Task 2
1. Do you prefer to live in a residence where there are strict rules (suchas rules against making loud noises at night), or do you prefer to live in aresidence without strict rules.
Personally, I would like to choose a residence with strict rules. Our homeis supposed to a place where we can relax and take a good a rest, thus get readyfor the next day. As a student, I am occupied with lots of assignments, likepapers, presentations, and even group project during the day. If I go back homeat night and still don't have a chance to take a good rest, I will be reallymad. To be able to live in a place with strict rules, we will not be distractedand disturbed by others, also, it restrains oneself from doing somethingdisruptive to others, and I think it is mutually beneficial to one another.
2. Some people would like to live in a historical building, while othersprefer to live in a modern building, which one do you prefer and explainwhy.
Personally, I would say I'd like to live in a modern building. Even though,the historical buildings with different architectural styles are very appealing,I think it is pretty scary to live in there, it might be haunted. A modernbuilding is more comfortable to live in, it has lots of modern facilities, likebig glass windows, so it makes it easier for the sunlight to get in. If youhappen to live in a tall modern building, you get a chance to appreciate theview of the whole city at night, that will be really awesome. Based on thesereasons I find it more comfortable to live in a modern building.
3. Some like do jobs with different tasks and others prefer to do the sametask every day. Which one do you prefer?
I would like to choose a job that requires me to do lots of tasks. First ofall, sitting in the office and repeating the same task again and again can bekilling. I will be really bored doing these repetitive tasks, and my workingefficiency will be very low. Secondly, doing lots of tasks can develop myself tobe a well-rounded person, now the job market is very competitive. If you aretrained to do different kind of tasks in a professional setting, you will bemore popular in the job market, thus have a better shot in getting a higher-paidjob.
4. Some people believe that it is better for children to grow up in bigcities. Others believe that it is better for children to grow up in rural areas.What is your opinion and why?
I would say it is better for children to grow up in big cities. Thefacilities and the atmosphere will be very beneficial to kids to grow up in acity. For example, kids are likely to get better education, medical treatment,and even social welfare. However, kids that live in the country are not thatlucky. Apart from that, a big city is multi cultural and full of dynamics, thereare people from all over the country and even from around the globe. Getting achance to experience different languages, customs and cultures will benefit thekids a lot when they grow up and it will make them a better and well-roundedperson.
5. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Students shouldhave some working experience such as doing a part-time job before going tocollege.
I would say students should definitely have some working experience liketaking a part time job before going to university. I have the following reasonsfor support. To begin with, you can make some money out of any part time job,and by saving up lots of money, you probably can pay some part of your expensivecollege tuition, and buy things you are interested in. On top of that, doing apart-time job helps to make someone a responsible person, by working withco-workers, you can develop social skills and organizational skills, which arefairly important for one's future career, and that might give you a better shotto land a sweet job after graduation in college.
6. Would you like to make friend with different interest or the one withsame interest? And why?
I would like make friends with different interests. Even though it might beeasy for two people with the same interest to be friends, as the saying goesbirds of the same feather flock together. By making friends with people ofinterest interests, we can get a chance to know more, like, we can know more indifferent fields, if your friend happens to be a car fan, you will broaden yourknowledge about different types of cars. Also, your friend can learn somethingthat he is not very familiar to him, it is always a good thing to learn fromothers and have something to offer at the same time.
7. When going on a vacation, some people prefer to stay in a hotel, whileothers prefer to camp outside in a tent. Which do you prefer?
Personally, I would choose to camp outside in a tent. The only reason forme to go on a vacation is to get away from the busy streets and concretejungles, and get a chance to be close to mother nature, by camping outside, Igot a chance to appreciate the beautiful starry sky at night, and enjoy thetranquility, I don't have the chance to enjoy that moment when living in thecity. Also, camping outside makes it easier for you to do some hiking, likewalking on the trail, and do some fishing and BBQ.
8. While traveling, some people prefer to go to new places, others preferto visit familiar places. Which do you think it better? Explain why.
Personally, I would to choose to travel to new places instead of familiarplaces. I am the kind of person who likes new and exciting things andexploration. Just visiting a familiar place is not fun, and actually it ispretty boring. On top of that, travelling around in different places makes me awell-rounded person. When travelling, I got a chance to talk to locals and getto know their culture, customs and way of living. By interacting with them I canbroaden my horizon and have new perspective on things.
9. When getting advice, some people prefer to go to their parents, othersprefer to go to their friends. Which do you prefer? Explain why.
I definitely prefer to get advice from my friends for the followingreasons. First, it’s so much easier for me to talk about my problem with mypeers instead of my parents. My parents might think they are more experienced inlife and everything, and tend to judge on lots of issues. However, my friendsare pretty laid-back, and they actually are very helpful when I have problemsand talk it over with they, cuz we have the same age, and our problems arepretty much similar with each other, so their advice is very relevant.
10. Some people prefer to buy innovative high-tech products like cellphones and computers when they first came out, others would buy them after theprice has been decreased. Which do you prefer and why?
I would say I like to buy innovative high-tech products after the pricegoes down, and I have a few reasons for support. First and foremost, productswith cutting edge and state of the art technology are usually very expensivewhen they first come out, and as a college student I do not have lost money towaste on that, cuz I have to pay college tuition, textbooks and stuff like that.Additionally, we consume technological products for its convenience and theywill be as valuable and convenient as they firstly show up in the market, so itis more advisable to buy that after a while.
11. Some people prefer to own books and movies, other prefer to borrow orrent them from libraries and stores. Which do you prefer?
I definitely choose to buy my books, and keep them as mine. I am wimp aboutgerms, and every time I think about how many people have touched or held thebooks in the library, I decide not to borrow books from the library. Plus, as aworking professional, I don't want to waste my energy remembering the deadlineof the book, having to return it on time. Since I am a big fan of owning books,I just go the bookstore and buy the books that I want.
