1】: Editors of newspapers and magazines often go toextremes to providetheir readers with unimportant facts and statistics.
【例句精析】:go toextremes ( to do sth) 走极端;事情做绝了;事情做过分了
The monitor goes to such extremes to get the teacher’sappreciation thateveryone in the class hates him now.

The book is not very good, but those critics have gone to extremes, sayingthat it is the worst one in the history.
This is rare occurrence as our climate seldom goes to extremes.(新概念第三册,L56)
I always say that you do too little physical exercises, but there is noneedfor you to go to the other / opposite extreme.
2】: However, he had at last been allowed to send a fax in whichheinformed the editor that the he had been arrested while counting the1,084steps leading to the fifteen-foot wall which surrounded the president's
palace.
上述例句中请注意如下部分——the 1,084 stepsleading to the fifteen-foot wall whichsurrounded the president's palace中的 leading to the fifteen-footwall是steps的定语,which surrounded the president'spalace是wall的定语。 即——the1,084 steps which led to the fifteen-foot wall which surroundedthe president'spalace.
